Kate has recently completed her PhD at the University of Queensland specialising in molecular biology. Her thesis focused on the evolution of proteins and peptides in stinging insect venom with an emphasis on the discovery of novel toxins for use as lead compounds in pharmaceutical drug development. During her PhD she was awarded a two-month research fellowship at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in Washington D.C. She has a research background in molecular biology, biochemistry, biotechnology and genetics. Kate is passionate about intellectual property and all thing patents and trademarks.
